Color Club Halo Hues 2015 – Swatches and Comparisons

Hey everyone!  Today I have the brand new 2015 Halo Hues from Color Club to show you.  This is going to be a long one with lots of pictures!  At the end I will add some comparisons between these and some of the older Color Club Halo Hues.

I have to start by saying what a newfound respect and admiration I have for bloggers!  I started this blog a couple months ago just to follow my own nail journey, so I post my Nail’s Of The Day, but this is the first time I’ve swatched a whole collection in one sitting. It’s a lot of work, but fun!

Anyway, I bought the whole 2015 Halo Hue collection from Ebay. I can’t believe it took only 3 days to get to me in Canada from the US. That’s a new record!!

So all of these polishes were a bit thick. I added nail polish thinner to almost all of them.  There was no dragging or balding. The polish wanted to run down the stem of the brush so I did have to wipe the brush off on the neck a couple of times during polishing. I found using thin coats was the way to go.  I did have some visible brushstrokes, but I think that’s only mentionable because it is so overcast here today, so the holo bling was not 100% which made brushstrokes more visible. On a sunny day, you would not notice anything but the holo goodness of these polishes!

For the pictures I did not use base or top coat. I used just 2 coats of each polish.  Like I said, I had very little sun, so I had to make due with shade, indirect lighting and flash.  I will mention the lighting for each picture below.

Shall we get started?  I took the bottle shots yesterday when I got the polishes so this picture is in full sun.

I’ll start with Star Light, Star Bright.  This is a golden/nude.  2 coats without base or top coat…These first 3 look quite similar in the bottles. Yesterday when I did quick swatches I thought they were so close I was hard pressed to see a difference.  Today I am noticing the difference, but it is still pretty slight.

Outside, overcast sky (shade)…

Next up is Just My Luck. This has a very slight green tint to it.  2 coats, no top or base coat.

Here is a full sun picture I took yesterday of those three polishes. It was hard to see any difference in them…

Next up is Sidewalk Psychic. A pretty bronzy brown. My pictures have come out quite darker than it really is in normal office lighting. It does read darker in the sun and under bright lights, but in my office it is a very light bronzy brown.  2 coats, no base or top coat.

So, my favorites in order are: Crystal Baller, Sidewalk Psychic, Date With Destiny, What’s your Sign, and the last 3 are all so similar, I can’t even put them in order. 🙂
Now, onto the comparisons. The sun finally came out, so I went outside to take my comp swatch pictures. All swatch sticks are 2 coats.

  1. Finally some has these new Halo Hues int he blog. Thanks a lot for showing them all on the nails! I'm a huge fan of Cosmic Fate at this point, so I might give a chance for Sidewalk Psychic, it's by far my favourite of these new shades.

Funny how there are three so similar shades with each other…

  2. Thank you so much – think yours is the first blog to have photos of these!!! Could you tell me if you think the grain on the new halo hues is larger – it seems grittier to me (not in texture being rough, but more like a scattered effect?) From your photos I feel like they changed the holo particles compared to the original series… anyway thanks SO MUCH!!!

  3. Hi! Thanks for the comment! I wouldn't say they are grittier, but yes to more scattered and I'd say more subtle than the originals. Unfortunately when I did the swatches, it was not a sunny day which makes them look not as awesome as they could have. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

  4. Thanks for the swatches on these! I saw them for sale on a beauty supply site, and couldn't remember seeing any swatches, and that's how I found your blog 🙂 Keep up the good work!

  5. Wow, excellent post!! Thanks so much for showing the new polishes next to the “old” ones. I was super excited for this collection but seeing the swatch sticks side by side I think I can skip this collection entirely. I was really expecting better from this collection after the 2013 HHs were so much more “saturated” than the 2012s. You just saved me a bunch of money!

  6. Hi Paula, thanks for your blog and especially the comparison photos! Those are GREAT. I can easily see the differences between the shades, which is easy in a store but hard on a website! Thank you so much.
