Zoya Matte Velvet Collection – Winter/Holiday 2015 Plus Comparison *Updated with Topcoat Pictures!*

Hey everyone!  I just got in the new 2015 Zoya Matte Velvet collection.  I am loving these jewel tones!  I haven’t had time to do swatches on my fingers, but wanted to post some swatch sticks along with comparisons to the older Zoya Matte Velvets.

A few thoughts before I get to the photos.  The 2015 Matte Velvets are very saturated in color. One coat covered the sticks so well.  I did use 2 coats for all the swatch sticks.  I also did not topcoat any of my swatches, but I just know that topcoating them is going to make them ‘out of this world’ beautiful!
**Continue to the bottom to see them with top coat!!**

Zoya Matte Velvet Collection – Winter/Holiday 2015
Here is the whole collection.  The bottle shots were taken outside in cloudy sun but I was having a hard time getting good photos outside, so the swatch stick photos were taken under the microwave light…

Here is a close-up of Honor, Iris & Yves.  Yves was ignored a bit today since it didn’t have a previous dupe, so this is the only photo of Yves up close you will see today. I know Yves will be one of my favorites though and probably the one I will wear first.

Here is a comparison of Zoya Posh vs. Zoya Amal.  Amal is much brighter than Posh.  On my sticks they are not dupes, but probably close enough that just one or the other would do.

Here is a comparison of Zoya Veruschka vs. Zoya Honor.  Again, Honor is a bit brighter than Veruschka. They are not dupes, but only one or the other would be sufficient to own.

Next up I have Zoya Harlow vs. Zoya Iris vs. Zoya Savita.  No dupes here.  Iris is a bit deeper in color than Harlow and Savita is too purple.

And lastly, not a comparison, but some up close photos of the last two new 2015 Matte Velvets, Sue and Aspen. These are both just gorgeous and I can’t wait to top coat them.
Sue looks to me to be more of a champagne color rather than gold.  It also has some colored shimmer in there. Another one I need to wear ASAP with topcoat!
Aspen is a nice bright white with some colored shimmer. It sort of reminds me of Sally Hansen Satin Glam Crystalline (which I love!). I didn’t have a swatch stick made of that one, but if anyone wants to see a comparison, let me know and I can do one.

Final thoughts: I love the old Zoya Matte Velvets and I love the new Matte Velvets too.  I like them worn matte, but the shimmer just really comes alive when they are topcoated, so I always end up doing that for a day before I remove them.  The formula of the new collection seems like it is excellent!  I will need to see how they go on an actual nail, but I didn’t have any problems painting the swatch sticks.  If you can think of something else you’d like to see compared, let me know in the comments and if I have it, I’ll post it for you!
UPDATE:  I just had to show you these with topcoat.  They are just as gorgeous as I thought they would be!  The swatches are all 2 coats plus topcoat. Photos taken under the microwave light. The difference in the coloring is some photos have additional flash and some don’t.

I didn’t label the new topcoated sticks.  All the photos below are the same polish one left matte and one topcoated.

I also had a request for a comparison between Zoya Aspen and Revlon Powder Puff.  I also included  Sally Hansen Crystalline because I thought it may be close. Aspen is 2 coats whereas Powder Puff and Crystalline needed 3 coats. Photos taken under the microwave light.

In the photos Aspen and Powder Puff seem close.  Powder Puff is “flatter” if you know what I mean. I think Aspen is much more complex than Powder Puff and Aspen would be my choice if I had to choose only one.

  1. These comparison photos are so awesome and helpful (although my wallet cries otherwise)! 🙂 Sue, Aspen, and Honor are now on my Christmas wishlist.
