Hi everyone! So, I’m not sure what to make of this collection from Essie that I just found at Shoppers Drug Mart. I wish I could have gotten a picture of the display, but I wrote down what it said. It said Fun Ships Summer 2016 Tropical Lights Collection. I googled and it looks like a couple of these are repromotes from 2008 or so, but I don’t see anything about this collection online at all. Well, I wanted to share it with you anyway.

I’ll start by saying I got bubbles with every single one of these colors. I tried different basecoat/topcoat combos, even going without any base or top coat. Every one bubbled. Except for the blue and green, I couldn’t see any bubbles on my fingers, just in the photos when I was cropping them. I thought maybe Essie and I just don’t agree with each other but I’ve worn a few Essie nail polishes before without bubbles. Anyway, I’ll move on to the swatches.
Classical Cliche. This is a light sky blue with a kind of green shimmer almost. Too much polish comes out on the brush and it runs down the stem. This nail polish is streaky, brushstrokey and frosty. First coat was scary looking, but the second coat made it look a little better. I tried layering it over black but that made no difference at all. I’m not a fan of this one at all, and I had high hopes for it from the bottle.

Reggae And Rum. Most everything I said about Classical Cliche can be said here too. Polish ran down the stem. Try to do thin coats if you can, that helps a little. I used 2 coats on my ring and pinky and I sponged on a 3rd coat on my index and middle. Sponging it on did help with the frost and brushstrokes. I’m still not a fan of this one.

Sizzling Hot. This is a bright pearly pink. What a difference in formula too! This is pretty sheer, so it’s hard to get it to build up to entirely cover all Visible Nail Line (VNL), so if you don’t like that look you will want to layer this or stay away from it. Formula was excellent. I used 3 coats and topcoat for the photos. This one did not bubble too bad, but there was some bubbling the camera picked up.

Funships. I think this is one of the polishes that has been reissued. I see reviews and photos online from 2008. This is a pinky watermelon shimmer. Excellent formula again. This one had the fewest bubbles, but there were still some I was able to hide most of them from the camera. Beautiful color. One of my favorites from the collection. I used 2 coats and topcoat for the photos.

Can’t Filmfest. This is another reissued polish. Again I see a couple photos online from 2008. This is a gorgeous bright raspberry shimmer. Another excellent formula and another of my faves. I got quite a lot of bubbles with this one. I used 2 coats plus topcoat for the photos.

Jewel In The Crown. A pretty medium purple shimmer. Excellent formula. This one I did not use base or top coat and still got bubbles that the camera picked up. It dries very shiny. I used 2 coats and no topcoat for my photos.

I’m not sure what to think about all the bubbles. I will have to revisit a couple of these and see if it happens again. I never get bubbles in my mani’s, so I was very surprised when every single one of them bubbled. At first I was blaming myself thinking maybe I was trying to rush. But I slowed down and changed up the base coat and top coat combos and still bubbles came. 😦

Well, there we have it!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

My goodness! How many summer collections is Essie doing this year? The colors look super pretty, but I am so sad about the bubbles. Why would Essie do such a thing to the world? Your pics look lovely as ever, regardless of the bubbles. 🙂

Hi Kim! I know, I thought maybe this was some old stock Shoppers found in the back room since I haven't heard anything about it and it looks like a couple of polishes are re-promotes from 2008. But the display clearly said Summer 2016. I hope the bubbles were only for me and anyone else won't have that problem!! Thanks for the kind words! 🙂

I picked this collection up, yesterday, at Shopper's, as well. I live in the states but right on the border of Canada, and I haven't heard a single thing about this collection in the states. I wonder if it's exclusive to Canada.

Oh, that's an idea too! I hadn't thought of that! Thanks for your comment! 🙂

I found a few shades at my Target here in Washington DC but no Funships or Reggae and Rum, like not even slots in the display. This collection is weirdly under-advertised! Thanks Paula for including color descriptions. I'm totally colorblind yet infatuated with nail polish so blogs like yours enable my obsession 🙂

This has been an odd collection. Just showing up with no warning, oh it's a Canadian exclusive, or wait, it's going to be Target stores too. lol! Really weird!
I'm glad you find my descriptions helpful!
Thanks for checking out my blog, I hope you'll be back! 🙂
