Orly Summer 2017 Coastal Crush – Swatches and Review

Hi everyone! Today I have the Orly Summer 2017 Coastal Crush collection to show you. There are 6 polishes in this collection. Four of them I would call crelly’s, one a shimmer fleck and one a smoother shimmer. Orly polishes are made here in the USA. I am not affiliated with Orly.

Let’s get started…

I’m going to first talk about the four polishes I call crelly’s. They all have the same characteristics, so instead of repeating myself four times, I’ll list them all here and just know it goes for the first four polishes I’m going to show you.

All four of these polishes are so smooth and easy to apply. There is no streaking, not even on the first coat. They are all bright, but not neon. They dry shiny so I know there is no neon pigment in there. Formula is on the thin side, it goes on well, but if you have too much on the brush you will get pooling around the cuticles. The brush is big and rounded at the bottom. I love it, but if you have small nail beds, it will be a bit more difficult. You can try turning the brush on it’s side and applying the polish that way. I did not use any basecoat for my swatches and did not get any staining. Granted, each polish was on my fingers for 30 minutes max, but I wanted to mention it anyway. I used two coats without topcoat for all the photos. There was still some visible nail line with them after two coats.

Shall we get onto the swatches? You can click on the individual photos below to expand them.

Up first is Summer Fling. This is a bright pink/orange. This was hard to photograph. It does have a bit of pink to it and it’s  bright yet a bit dusty. 2 coats without base or top coat…

Surfer Dude was also hard to photograph. It looks a bit oranger in the photos. It’s really a orangy red. 2 coats without base or top coat…

No Regrets is a bright fuchsia pink. 2 coats with no base or top coat…

For The First Time is a bright pinky purple. 2 coats with no base or top coat…

Here are all four of those polishes together so you can see the difference in them. They are in the same order on my fingers as above.

This is what the brush looks like. This brush is from Summer Fling, but they are all the same size…

As I was putting on Summer Fling, I thought maybe it was close to the original China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy. I also just got in a mini size of Trust Fund Beauty Game Changer, so I did a quick comparison of those three polishes.

Trust Fund Beauty Game Changer is on the index, Orly Summer Fling is on the middle and pinky, and original China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy is on the ring finger. I used three coats for the China Glaze and two for the other two polishes, no base or top coat. You can see they are not dupes. The China Glaze is pinker, dries matte and has a worse formula. The Trust Fund Beauty is closer, but still not an exact dupe, to Flip Flop Fantasy. It also has a better formula, even in the mini size.

The last two polishes in the Coastal Crush collection are shimmers.

First up is Sea You Soon. This is a bright caribbean blue with green/blue shimmer flecks. This one has the same wide brush. The formula is a little more streaky, I didn’t really notice it as I was applying it or even to my eye, but the camera did pick up some streakiness. I wouldn’t worry about that at all. Like I said, to my eye I could not see it. I did need three coats for this one and still had some nail line showing. I love blue’s like this one! The shimmer showed up really well too!

Last but not least is Under The Stars. A dark, royal blue shimmer. Same wide brush, really nice formula. This one will need two or three coats. I used three and no base or top coat.

So that’s the whole collection. What do you think? Any must haves for your own collection? Let me know in the comments!

I haven’t seen this out in any stores yet, but looks like it is available around online.

Well, there we have it!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

The polish in this post is from my own collection and was purchased by me.

  1. I like Sea You Soon. It reminds me of two Zoyas that I’ve been eyeing, Saint and Tallulah. I love Orly polish. I recently added Mirror Ball to my little Orly family and I’m thinking of getting their quick dry top coat in that nice big bottle.

    1. I like that one too! And I got Mirror Ball about a year ago, I love it! You really need Saint. I have it untried, but it has a purple flash to it that Sea You Soon doesn’t have. The bigger bottles and wide brushes make me a fan of Orly too!! I haven’t tried any of the top coats yet.

  2. I just painted “Summer Fling” last night and it surprised me! I agree that it went on easily. I needed only two coats probably, but did three because I could still see my nail tips underneath. Today as I look at it while wearing a pink shirt, it is VERY neon orange! I would class it as a neon. Or an electrified coral. Or coral on steroids. I will move onto the rest of the collection in a few days. I subscribed to the Orly Color Pass so I got these months ago but haven’t tried them yet. I have so many new polishes I haven’t even gotten to yet!
