China Glaze Color Is Magic “My Little Pony” Collection // Swatches and Review Part 1

Check out Part 2 of my swatches and review HERE!!

Hi everyone! Today I have swatches and my thoughts on seven of the polishes from the new China Glaze Color Is Magic “My Little Pony” Collection. I’m starting with the creme/crelly/shimmers. This post is VERY pic heavy and quite long!!

China Glaze Color Is Magic "My Little Pony" Collection - Part 1

First up is Kill ‘Em With Kindness. This is a pretty, pale yellow with a great formula! I’d say this is more of a crelly than a true creme. It is not streaky at all, even on the first coat. I was craving a yellow earlier this spring and this one fills that void nicely!

With all the crelly/creme’s you will want to watch for cuticle flooding and drips down the stem of the brush. Just don’t overload your brush and you should be good. Those little inconveniences are worth a fantastic two coat pastel yellow!

My photos are 2 coats with topcoat.

Here I added one coat of Let Your Twilight Sparkle on the index and Hay Girl Hay on the middle. (You will see these two shimmer toppers featured in part 2!)

Hay Girl Hay looks great over this yellow. I would not suggest the blue over it, but it really didn’t look horrible, horrible…

Next I have Cute Marks The Spot. This is a bright, mint green. I was going to try to save some time by not using basecoat, so I started applying this one and it was streaky and difficult. I removed the streaky mess from the two fingers I’d painted and put on my basecoat. The difference was amazing! It went on so easy and streak free. This one was not a perfect formula, it was thick yet thin. I got some pooling in the cuticles but no streaks! Two coats look great, but it is a little extra work getting there.

Next up is One Polished Pony. This is a bright aqua with tonal shimmer. If you are careful, one coat may be enough. It’s on the thick side, but it stays where you put it. There was no running or pooling with this one. The shimmer is tonal so it won’t stand out on the nail, but it adds a little oomph to the polish. I used two coats plus topcoat. I really like this one a lot!

Next is Too Busy Being Awesome. This is an awesome polish!! I’d say this is a bright, cerulean blue. An absolute perfect formula! No running or pooling with this one. It’s so pretty and so perfect! Love it!

I have 2 coats on my middle and pinky fingers and 1 coat on my index and ring. You could wear this polish with just one coat, but the second coat does deepen the color a little and covers the little bit of visible nail line you may see with just 1 coat.

Here I added one coat of Let Your Twilight Sparkle on the index and Hay Girl Hay on the middle. You can see the duo chrome come out on the index finger. I would not suggest the combo on the middle finger…

Sweet AS Pinkie Pie is a peachy pink. This had a good formula. It’s on the thinner side so watch for the cuticle flooding and drips down the stem. There are no streaks which makes me think of this as more of a crelly formula. It could almost be a one coater if you’re careful.

I used 2 coats plus topcoat but left my pinky at just 1 coat with topcoat.

She’s A Mane-iac is a bright, hot pink neon with tonal shimmer. This one dries matte so a glossy topcoat brings out the shimmer. It’s not ‘in your face’, but it is noticeable with topcoat. Be careful again with the cuticle flooding and drips down the stem. Otherwise, it had a great formula. I’ll wear this as my next pedicure for sure! One of my favorites from this part of the collection.

2 easy coats with glossy topcoat on all but my pinky I left matte.

Last one for today is Applejack Of My Eye. A gorgeous poppy red. I was trying to think of what color red to call this the other day while painting the swatch wheel and couldn’t place it. Today while painting my fingers poppy jumped to mind and I think it really fits! This was another super smooth, streak free application. I did have a lot of cuticle flooding with this one, I think I was getting tired and rushing a little and just put too much on the brush. This is another favorite today, I love it!

I didn’t try either of the shimmer toppers over this one, I just didn’t think either one would look good.

Whew! I made it through part one of the China Glaze Color Is Magic “My Little Pony” Collection. I think Kill ‘Em With Kindness (yellow), She’s A Man-iac (hot pink neon) and Applejack Of My Eye(red) are my favorites, but I love them all. Love the easy, streak free formulas! Oh, another favorite is Too Busy Being Awesome (the darker blue).

Which are calling out to you?

Please forgive any messy application/dry cuticles. I spent 7 hours in two different urgent care’s yesterday with a kidney stone. So. Much. Pain! I think I washed my hands about 1,000 times yesterday and my cuticles hated me for it! I really wanted to get these up for you guys as soon as I could though, so they may be a little messy.

Part 2 coming later this weekend!!

Well, there we have it!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. I love China Glaze and all of these colors are beautiful but I already have every color in my collection already, some even a couple times over. Especially the blue, pink and red. Can’t wait to see the second part of the collection though. Sorry to here about your health ordeal. I hope you’re feeling better!

    1. Hi Linda! Yes, you are right, these are not winning any awards for originality, but if you like these colors, they all do have really easy to work with formulas!

I’ll be working on Part 2 today and hopefully will have it up by tomorrow.

Thank you for the well wishes. I am so much better!!
