Hi everyone! Today I have the next collection coming out from Orly for Fall/Winter 2017 called Velvet Dream. This is a nice collection, consisting mostly of crelly/cremes and a shimmer and one that may look familiar to an old favorite from Orly. As always I have a lot of photos. I am not affiliated with Orly.
First up is Black Cherry. This is a deep purply/magenta/berry crelly. Really smooth, easy to apply first coat, no streaks. It’s definitely a berry shade, but sometimes I would glance down and it would appear more red, usually in really low lighting indoors. I used two coats plus topcoat. This one dried to an almost “rubber” finish. Not dull per se, and not matte, just not really glossy. A good glossy topcoat made it shine though.
Here’s a photo of it with just one coat. No cleanup or topcoat. You can see there are no streaks and the coverage is great. This was inside with flash…
And the finished mani, 2 coats plus topcoat.

Outside in the sun. This is a much brighter than it appears in real life…

Next is Blue Suede. This is a deep teal blue crelly. Another excellent formula; super easy, streak free application. I used two coats and NO topcoat. This one dries really shiny all on it’s own. (I would normally topcoat it anyway if I was wearing this as a real mani). There may still be some visible nail line at two coats, but I really had to look for it by holding my hand up into a really bright light. Otherwise it may have been there, but it did not stand out and shout “VNL”! However, if your nails are longer it may be more obvious on you.
This one does look like the type of color that may stain. I had it on for less than 30 minutes total, used base coat, and removed with my scrubby tub and had NO staining on my nails or cuticles/skin.

Next up is Just Bitten. This is a great name for this polish, a beautiful dark, blood red crelly. Another excellent formula. Really even and smooth to apply. I used two coats plus topcoat. This one also dries shiny on it’s own. Just like with Blue Suede, visible nail line did not shout at me, but it was probably there and if your nails are longer you may notice it more than I did. This was a hard one to photograph.

Inside the lightbox. I think this is very true to the look indoors..
A quick comparison to some similar OPI reds and I threw in Black Cherry from this collection too so you could see them together. No dupes here, except for Vampire State Building is very close to Mrs. O’Leary’s BBQ.

Next I have November Fog. This is a dusty lilac creme. Another smooth, easy to apply polish. I’m not great at knowing if something is warm or cool, but this one hits me as being on the cool side. I used two coats plus topcoat.

Next is Silken Quartz. This is a barely pink tinged nude shimmer on me. If I hadn’t got the whole collection I probably would not have been drawn to this one at all, but I kind of really love it on me! There are some brushstrokes that show in the shimmer as you are applying, but to my eye they seemed to dry down really well but you can still see them a little bit in the pictures. I forgot to write down how many coats I did, but I’m pretty sure it was just two coats plus topcoat (but it may have been 3?)

Last up is Velvet Kaleidoscope. Looking at the bottle I right away thought of the old favorite, Space Cadet. It is a bit different though. Space Cadet (SC) has an obvious teal base with sparser shimmer flecks that are rosy to bronze to copper to gold. Velvet Kaleidoscope (VK), I believe, has the same teal base but it is totally obstructed by the very dense shimmer flecks in the same rosy, bronze, copper, gold flash. The not as obvious base of VK makes it appear brighter, where you can see a dark outline around the nail with SC. The denser shimmer fleck also makes VK much more opaque.
I have two coats plus topcoat of Velvet Kaleidoscope on all my fingers but the middle finger has three coats plus topcoat of Space Cadet.
The big question: Do I need this one? If you missed out on Space Cadet or any of it’s dupes, you do need it. If you don’t like doing 3+ coats of Space Cadet, you do need it. If you already have Space Cadet and are happy with it, you can probably pass on Velvet Kaleidoscope.
Here are the bottles with flash…
This picture shows the difference on white paper but the similarities over black…

One more look at the whole collection. This time in the sun except for Blue Suede and Velvet Kaleidoscope are outside in the shade…
Most of these colors are not super original and exciting, but if you need any of these colors in your collection, they do all have great formulas! I think my unexpected favorite is Silken Quartz and of course I love Space Cadet, so Velvet Kaleidoscope is another favorite.
As a side note, I really love the Orly brush. It is wide but rounded and it fits my nails perfectly. I can pretty much put the right pressure on the brush while applying to get the bristles to splay just enough to only swipe once down the middle of each finger (even my pinky). I get an easy, perfect application that way. Love them!
I got this collection early by buying the Orly “Color Pass” online. It’s a pretty great deal. You get each of the next 4 collections earlier than the public and they also include some extras in each box. This is my second installment and I am really happy with it. You pay up front, then every three months you will just get a package from Orly in the mail.
You can read all about it and sign up HERE. They included a discount code in my box this month, so if you use the code “VELVETDREAM” you can save $10 on the annual cost of the Color Pass. I do not know how long this code is valid. This is not an affiliate code, I do not get anything if you use the code. It’s just there to save you some money! If you sign up now, I believe you would get this fall collection now and then the next three collections as they come out.
Here’s what my box looked like this time. I got the 6 piece collection, a matte topcoat, and a small red velvet choker.
Well, there we have it!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
The polish in this post is from my own collection and was purchased by me.

lol! I agree, but I know it sometimes slows everything down and takes awhile to open up on some devices when there are too many photos. 🙂
