Sally Hansen Summer 2017 Crayola Collection // Swatches and Review Part 1

Hi everyone! Today I have the first 6 polishes from the new Sally Hansen Crayola Collection. This is a collection of 12 polishes in bright, fun, Crayola colors! I ordered most of these a couple weeks ago from Target.com, but I have since seen them in a Target store. People on MUA are also seeing them in BB&B, HEB and Kmart. I am not affiliated with Sally Hansen, Crayola or any of those stores.

This collection took me way back to school shopping before the new school year started. I always loved school shopping with the list from school of the supplies we would need for the next year. I always got the new 64 crayon box from Crayola with the built in sharpener before each elementary school year. Ah, Memories!

You can see Part 2 HERE

Here are all 12 of the colors. Today I just have the first 6 to show you.

So I will just dive right in. One thing to mention before I get started, these are all so pigmented! Every swatch photo you see below (and yes, there are a lot of them) is only 1 coat on every finger but the ring finger will have 2 coats. Even the yellow and the orange! WOW!

Here are the 6 I will show you today…

First up is Carnation Pink. This is a great name for this perfect summer pink. This has a great, smooth formula. This one is a bit thicker than the others, but you still need to watch for running down the long brush stem as you are painting. This is very pigmented and would probably make a great stamping polish. I wanted to try to show you some stamping, but I cannot find my stamper right now.

This is just 1 coat on all fingers but the ring finger has 2 coats, with topcoat on all.

Next is Razzmatazz, a pretty watermelon pink/red. Another excellent, smooth, highly pigmented formula. This one is not quite as thick as the first one, and you will still want to watch for brush stem runs. That seemed to be a problem with all the polishes today. I had a little skin staining around my cuticles after I removed this one, but it wasn’t too bad.

This is just 1 coat on all fingers but the ring finger has 2 coats, with topcoat on all.

Next I have Scarlet, a bright tomato red with a touch of orange. Again, a smooth, highly pigmented formula. Don’t load too much polish on the brush to discourage flooding the cuticles and watch for those dreaded stem runs.

This is just 1 coat on all fingers but the ring finger has 2 coats, with topcoat on all.

Next is Wild Strawberry, another red. This one is a deeper, more primary red. Excellent, saturated, crelly formula. Watch for flooding and stem runs.

This is just 1 coat on all fingers but the ring finger has 2 coats, with topcoat on all.

Here is a quick comp of those first four polishes all together.

  • Index – Carnation Pink
  • Middle – Razzmatazz
  • Ring – Scarlet
  • Pinky – Wild Strawberry

The two reds are quite similar once you get them next to each other on the nail. You can see the difference most of the time; you can tell Scarlet has a touch of orange and Wild Strawberry is more of a true red. In some lighting they do almost look identical though. You probably wouldn’t need both of these unless you are like me and like keeping the whole collection together!

Sunset Orange is next. A bright yet muted pumpkin orange. It’s not at all florescent or neon. It will be a nice fall orange. This one was a bit streakier on that first coat, but it did level out pretty well and topcoat helped level it also. This is another you will want to keep away from the cuticles. It’s hard to clean up and does leave behind a little skin staining. No staining on the nails however.

This is just 1 coat on all fingers but the ring finger has 2 coats, with topcoat on all.

Last up is Dandelion. A bright yet muted yellow. You will notice this on your nails, but it is not neon or florescent at all. Another one that wanted to cling to the skin and was hard to clean up. Still no actual nail staining though. I did not have nail staining with any of these colors. I did do a little bit of a thicker coat, but still only one coat was smooth and opaque!

This is just 1 coat on all fingers but the ring finger has 2 coats, with topcoat on all.

Bottom line, I really like these a lot! I think every one of them would make a good stamping polish. I did not like the bit of cuticle staining I got with the orange and yellow, but some of that may have been my fault. I wasn’t paying a lot of attention and flooded my cuticles with both of those colors. They did all want to run down the brush stem while painting, so beware of that. That stem running seems to be prevalent with long stems like these have.

I’m excited to get started on the next six. Blues and purples are usually my favorite colors and I can’t wait to see if the white will also be streak free and opaque at just one coat!

Well, there we have it!
