Hi everyone! Today I’m doing a test to see if my oldest thermal polishes still transition. I see the question asked often, “How long do thermal polishes last before they die and stop transitioning?”. No one really knows the answer. There are some variables that will help them last longer, store in a cool dark place is the big one. Many brands will not mail thermals during the hottest months so they will not get burnt from the heat during transit.
So this collection of thermals is my oldest, let’s see if they still work!

Most makers place a six month to one year shelf life on the thermal properties working correctly. I bought this collection of polishes back in November 2011 from The Shopping Channel in Canada. These were my first color changing thermals and I wanted to see if they would still transition almost 7 years later. Good news, they do!

This test is really not going to answer the question of how long do thermals last before they die. I’m sure I have some I’ve bought since 2011 that do not still work even though all my polish is kept in the same room in the same type of storage. I guess it’s hit or miss on how long a thermal polish will continue to work. It’s also a gamble on what color the polish will “die” in. From what I’ve read, it may be the hot color or the cold color or it may morph into some random color mixture of the two. You should get at least 6 months life out of a thermal, so if you buy them, wear them quickly! And try to only buy them during cooler months.
So onto these polishes. I have two coats plus topcoat of each color, from index to pinky: Hyper, Blissful, Devious, Ditsy. Hyper is the only creme and it had the worst formula (streaky), the others all had a silvery shimmer and excellent formulas. They all dried to a matte finish so I used one coat of a glossy topcoat. I really like all four of these!
All of today’s photos are late at night with flash. I used hot and cold water to force the transition.
Here they are in the cold state…

Here is the warm state…

Here they are mid transition…

Well, there we have it!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
