Hi everyone! Happy New Year! Today I have the 12 piece Tokyo collection from OPI for Spring 2019 to show you. This collection consists of 9 cremes/crellies and 3 shimmers. This collection is not earth shattering in its originality, but the polishes do all have great formulas and I really enjoyed swatching all of these!
I purchased all 12 polishes from PolishPick.com. They sell regular OPI colors for just $5.50 each (Infinite Shines are $6.50) and they have very reasonable shipping charges as well!
You know this is going to be a long, very picture heavy post!
**Check out the Sally Beauty and Ulta exclusives for the Tokyo Collection HERE!!**

I will show all 12 polishes in this post in alphabetical order. There are a few things all the polishes have in common, so that I don’t just keep repeating myself please know:
- There are some cringe-worthy names here. I’m almost embarrassed for OPI with some of these names!
- I used a peel off basecoat for all the swatches so I had no staining or other problems.
- I’d say these are more of a crelly finish than plain creme. They mostly had smooth applications, no chalkiness and very minimal streaking on first coats. The second coats always cover and smooth anything out (except for one polish I needed 3 coats).
- A couple formulas were runnier than others. I will make a note of those with the swatch.
- They all dry shiny. For some I used topcoat for others I did not. I will note this with the swatch.
- You may think a couple of these colors are very close to each other. I do have a couple of comparisons (just within this collection) at the bottom. If you think of anything else you’d like compared, leave me a comment and if I have it, I will compare them for you.
Ok, lets dive right in.
- All Your Dream in Vending Machines – This is a bright pink with blue shimmer. On my index finger I layered one coat over Hurry-juku Get This Color. All the other nails have 2 coats alone with topcoat.

- Another Ramen-tic Evening – This is a dusty pink rose creme/crelly. I used 2 coats with topcoat. The photos are a little more pink than the polish looks in real life.

- Arigato From Tokyo – This is a medium purpley pink creme/crelly. This one was a little bit runnier than most of them. I used 2 coats with topcoat. The flash photo is very close to the real life color, the other photos are just too pink.

- Chopstix and Stones – This is a beautiful, bright sapphire blue jelly with blue shimmer. This is not a black looking blue, it always looked blue. Sapphire is my birthstone and I just love this one! I used 2 coats with topcoat.

- How Does Your Zen Garden Grow? – This is a bright spring green creme/crelly. This one was a bit runny and streaky on the first coat but the second coat covered nicely. I used 2 coats with topcoat.

- Hurry-juku Get This Color! – This is a medium magenta/orchid purple crelly. This was hard to photograph so I only have pictures from the lightbox. All the others were too far off from what the polish looked like in real life. These are very true to color. I used 2 coats without topcoat.

- I’m on a Sushi Roll – This is a medium green leaning aqua. I used 2 coats with topcoat.

- Kanpai OPI! – This is a grayed blue lilac creme/crelly. This is an unusual color and is one of my favorites from this collection. I used 2 coats without topcoat.

- Rice Rice Baby – This is another dusty rose/pink creme/crelly, very similar to Another Ramen-tic Evening, just a little darker. I used 2 coats with topcoat.

- Samurai Breaks a Nail – This is an ultra violet, bright purple with blue shimmer and red micro sparkles. This one probably had the worst formula of the collection. It was quite streaky with the first coat and the second coat looked good to my eye, but I was afraid it would still be patchy so I added a third coat. This was also a hard to photograph color but these photos are very close to the color in real life. Even though it had the worst formula, it’s still one of my favorites from the collection. I used 3 coats with topcoat.

- Suzi-san Climbs Fuji-san – This is a medium blue leaning aqua creme/crelly. I had a wonky brush in my bottle, but if this happens, just nip off those stray bristles and you’ll be good to go. Even with that brush this had an excellent formula! I used 2 coats with topcoat.

- Tempura-ture is Rising – This is a bright orange/coral creme/crelly. No chalkiness, really smooth application! This is another favorite of mine from the collection. I used 2 coats without topcoat.

Suzi-san Climbs Fuji-san vs I’m on a Sushi Roll…

Nancy Jean wondered how Kanpai OPI compares to You’re Such A Budapest. Budapest is sheerer and brighter in color. Kanpai OPI is much more opaque (with a better formula) and more of a dusty gray/purple color.

Leish wondered how OPI Closer Than You Might Belem compared to OPI Suzi-san Climbs Fuji-san and how OPI I’m On A Sushi Roll compared to My Dogsled Is A Hybrid.
First up is all of them together. I also threw in OPI Mermaid’s Tale because it seemed similar as I was looking for the others.

Hi Paula! I was googling swatches of OPI Tokyo and I found your blog. Great swatches–I love how you show each polish in different lights/locations and go into detail about each formula. It really helped me decide on which ones to get.

This collection is pretty repetitive to me (too much pink), but there are a few I like. Your collection posts in different lights are always very helpful! TY!
Was wondering how I Am What I amtheyst compares to Kanpai (all opi). And Suzi-san Climbs Fuji-san vs I’m on a Sushi Roll compare to My Dogsled Is A Hybrid and Closer than you might Belem?? If you have the time to show. Keep up the good work!

Hi Leish!
I’m glad you enjoy all my photos in different lighting!
I don’t own I Am What I Amethyst so I can’t do that one for you but I do own all 4 of the tealy/aquas so can get that done. It may take a couple days though. I will post another comment here when I have it up so you don’t have to keep checking back. 🙂
Thanks so much for checking out my blog and the comment!

Great post! This must have taken you ages to swatch, photograph in different lighting and pull together the comparisons and then type it all up.
Amazing dedication. Thank you for taking the time to do all off this x

Great work. Thank you. I love rice rice baby , another ramen tic evening and temperature is rising. I can’t help thinking that all your dreams in vending machines is a relaunch of their good old “Flashbulb Fuchsia” . LooK up the colour on google and tell me if you agree.

Hi Rena! Thanks so much for checking out my blog! I like your favorite list! All Your Dreams does seem very similar in photos in Google, you may be right! I don’t have Flashbulb so I can’t compare them myself.
