Orly – Hot House Flower

Hi everyone! Did you miss me? It’s been awhile since I’ve done a post. I think it’s been about a month that I didn’t even paint my nails! I’ve been in a bit of a funk and also busy making jewelry pieces for my new Etsy Store (shameless plug – JewelrybyRPF). But today’s manicure may have pulled me right out of that funk!

Orly - Hot House Flower

This polish was one of my biggest lemmings! I don’t know for sure when it even came out, the oldest blog post I can find online is from Scrangie from 2010 so probably around then or before. That makes sense since I first got into polish in 2011.

I have other big polish lemmings and I see them for sale now and then but the price usually keeps me away (I’m looking at you Clarins 230!) but this polish I never even saw for sale. Not on Ebay, not in destashes, never. I finally just saw it in a destash last week and I pounced on it! I snatched it right up and just got it in the mail on Wednesday.

Never give up hope of finding those elusive lemmings!!

Hot House Flower is a bright, neon orangy/coral with a pink shimmer. Formula was good. I used three coats plus topcoat. It does take forever to dry but I am still beyond thrilled to finally own this one!

  1. This reminds me of a barry m colour in the under the sea collection. I bought it. Looks so pretty in the bottle but wasn’t so keen with it on. Maybe just not suit my tone. This looks quite similar.
Is a lemming one that has vanished ? I’m assuming so !
Theres a versace Heat I once saw & would love, though I fear it may not even have been produced now for 10 years. If I find it I’ll tell everyone !
    Great article Paula.

    1. Hi Viv!
Well, better late than never I guess, I somehow totally missed seeing this comment until I was just answering the one below you!
Yes, a lemming is something you really want but can’t get for one reason or another (price, discontinued, etc). I hope you find your Versace polish one day, I’d love to see a photo of it!

Thanks for leaving a comment, I’m so sorry I missed it until now!

  2. Paula, hi sweetie! This colour is really adorable yet putting 3 coats and topcoat in addition – wasn’t it too much? Do you think that 2 coats aren’t enough, don’t you? I’ve never tried this ORLY brand, yet after googling about it – I found a lot of positive reviews and and on top of it, this European e-shop offering discounted Orly nail lacquers https://www.enails.eu/en/nail-polish/orly.html Meanwhile one more question to you – how long your nails didn’t go without any chips? I can get a guaranteed week or so out of Zoya/Essie/OPI. What is your experience with Orly?

    1. Hi Ashley,
I don’t mind doing 3 coats of color. I usually do pretty thin coats so it’s not too much for me.

I don’t leave my polish on for that long usually to test wear. I am very lucky in that if I do leave polish on I hardly ever get chips. It doesn’t matter the brand. I think nail health has a lot to do with if you get chips in your polish or not. I take good care of my nails and I don’t suffer with peelies or anything.
Thanks for checking out my blog and leaving a comment!

  3. Hi Paula.
I am new to your blog but am really enjoying it. My all-time elusive lemming is L’Oreal Sea Fleur Nail Polish (circa 1980). I used to wear it all the time and loved it, but for the life of me can’t seem to find anything even remotely like it. Hence my collection of 200+ bottles of violet/blue duochrome nail polishes that I thought were a close match, but no cigar! I have met a few keepers along the way, such as Esmalte Ludurana Violet-Blue (also a lemming now, I regret), and Revlon’s Crystal Ball. And of course, Clarins 230 is a never-ending dream polish which I can’t afford! One day…
