Find the sneak peek of this Songbird Serenade Duo HERE
Hi everyone! Today I have the last two polishes from the new China Glaze Color Is Magic “My Little Pony” collection to show you. These polishes came in a special Collector’s Duo called Songbird Serenade. I bought mine on Ebay.
This is another long, photo heavy post!!
Here’s another look at the package and the little rings that come inside…
Best Ponies Forever is a liquid gold metallic. As with most metallic finishes, you will have brushstrokes and any imperfection on your nail or in your application will show. You could sponge on the last coat with a makeup sponge to hide those imperfections if they really bother you.
This is a pretty color and I think it would stamp really well too. I’m personally not a big fan of brushstrokey metallic’s, so I don’t love this one. But if you like metallic finishes, this is a pretty one. I used two coats on all fingers except my ring finger is just one coat plus topcoat on all.

Songbird Serenade is a black base with a lot of multi colored micro shimmer. It goes on really well and dries smooth. This was so pretty as I was painting it, the shimmer really sparkles like crazy while the polish is wet. Unfortunately, once it dries it just looks black indoors. Out in the sun the sparkle does come out and it is actually really pretty, subdued but pretty. I had such high hopes for this one, but it is a little bit of a let down with that shimmer hiding indoors.
As I was cropping my photos Butter London Black Knight came to mind. Mine was untried, so I wasn’t sure if it would be a dupe or not so I pulled it out and I have some comparison photos at the bottom.

As I said, I thought of Butter London Black Knight as I was cropping my photos of Songbird Serenade. They are not dupes because Black Knight has chunkier glitter/shimmer instead of the smooth micro shimmer in Songbird Serenade. They do have a similar feel though. Black Knight is sheerer which maybe helps the shimmer show through. I much prefer Black Knight to the China Glaze.
Here are swatch sticks and fingers swatches of the two polishes in various lighting.
All the swatch sticks are 2 coats of Songbird Serenade and 3-4 coats of Black Knight.
The finger swatches are 1 coat Black Knight over Songbird Serenade on my middle nail and 2 coats of Songbird Serenade alone on my ring nail.
