Hi everyone! Today I have the new/upcoming 6 piece Pop Culture Collection from OPI. You all are going to think I’ve lost my mind when you see the photos below, but I am not hating this collection! Keep in mind you are seeing up close and expanded photos and they don’t look all that appealing, but in real life, at arm’s length, these do not look that bad. I actually really love a couple of them and at least one of them I would not wear again.
Now, I am a big fan of textured polishes. I have all the Zoya PixieDusts, OPI Liquid Sands, and a few from L’oreal among others. You do have to be a fan of gritty texture or just turn away now, these are not for you! In my opinion, these do not look good with topcoat and even worse with matte topcoat. They actually are not as bumpy and obnoxious if you layer one coat over a similar base color either. I will show you all of that below.
I bought these from PolishPick.com. You can find them HERE. I am not really affiliated, I do buy the polish from them but I am a choice in their drop down menu of where you heard about the company. I don’t get any perks if you do or don’t pick me, but please choose my name if you do make a purchase! I am not affiliated with OPI.
I do have a lot of photos today!

The Pop Culture Collection consists of 6 polishes:
- Bumpy Road Ahead
- Days of Pop
- Hate To Burst Your Bubble
- OPI Pops!
- Pink Bubbly
- Pop Star

In the bottles these all look like winners! They are gorgeous colors with contrasting shimmer. If OPI had left out whatever makes them “POP” and bubble you would want them all! Unfortunately, they did not leave the bubbles out. But like I said above, I love a couple of these, I like a couple others and at least one I would not personally wear again.

The directions say to not use base or top coat and to let them dry for a few minutes. I think they need a lot of time to dry completely, they do change how they look the longer you let them dry. I have varying degrees of dry time with the polishes below. I also used base coat for all of them. I will also show pictures of my thumb using a creme “undie” with just one coat of POP polish over. They do seem to not get such big bubbles that way.
The formula on all of them was really great! They apply easily, I love the OPI brush. I could still see visible nail line with most of these until I layered them over the creme base colors. They all have shimmer but you really don’t even notice it on the nail, except for one polish you do see it. (I’m not sure I’m telling you the correct shimmer color for all of these, but it is what it looks like to my eye.) I use a “scrubby tub” for removal and they removed quite quickly. I did not have to scrub a lot to get them off.
Well, let’s just dive right in.
OPI Bumpy Road Ahead. This is a dark but bright navy blue with green shimmer. This was my very favorite. With the dark base color, the shimmer is still somewhat noticeable. I did wear this one the longest before taking photos, about 10 hours. I used 2 coats without topcoat.

OPI Days of Pop. This is a periwinkle/sky blue base with green shimmer. This was the quickest between applying and taking photos, probably just about 15 minutes. I used 3 coats of this one.

OPI Hate To Burst Your Bubble. This is a golden yellow base with golden shimmer. Think taxi cab yellow. For this one I waited about an hour between applying and taking photos. I used 2 coats without topcoat.

For this one I did not layer it over a creme base but I did apply 2 coats of a matte topcoat to my index finger and 2 thick coats of glossy topcoat on my other three fingers. I personally did not like the look of either of these choices, so I decided to start layering the other colors over the cremes…

So what do you think of this “POP” Culture Collection? Will you give any of them a try? Do you think I’ve lost my mind for not hating this collection? lol! I hope not!

So which one was your least favorite?

Hi Ada! The yellow, especially on it’s own, was my least favorite. It was bright and loud! However, once I layered one coat over a yellow base coat it was better. Thanks for checking out my blog!! 🙂

When I first saw the collection, I loved the colors. But seeing your swatches makes me think twice. I love the colors but not this “pop” effect.

Hi Marybeth! Yes, the bottles are deceiving! They look so pretty in the bottle with the shimmer, but these are definitely not for everyone! Thanks for stopping by my blog!!

Hi,
I thought the shiny top coat looked good. I liked the two blues, the red and the purple.

No, no, no, no, no… I mean, I love a textured nail as much as the next gal – I live for my OPI Liquid Sands, of which I believe I own every shade, and have happily experimented with (ahem) leather, suede, and latex *nail effects* (quit your giggling at the back!) – but these are just… WRONG! I don’t know how else to put it, unless I were to say, that if it were a straight choice between this and Essie Belugaria, how the latter would win, every. single. time… and believe me, that really is SAYING something!
But thanks for doing your best with them – I love the attention to detail you always show, by presenting each shade in so many lighting conditions, it really does make all the difference!
