China Glaze OMG Collection Flashback // Swatch, Review and Comparisons with the Original OMG Collection
Hi everyone! Oh boy! I’m going to have a long post with a lot of photos today!
In 2008 China Glaze released the OMG Collection. There were 12 beautiful, linear holographic polishes in the collection. This June, for the 10 year anniversary, they have released an OMG Flashback Collection with 6 of the 12 polishes. Before it was released, there was speculation if they would be as great as the originals or if we’d be let down like with the Hologlam and Tronica “holographic” collections from a few years ago. I’m here to tell you (and show you) that this is not at all a let down! These 6 polishes are just as wonderful as the originals!! Way to go China Glaze! This is how a Flashback collection should be done!
China Glaze OMG 2008 Collection & OMG Flashback 2018 Collection
China Glaze OMG 2008 Collection & OMG Flashback 2018 Collection
The six polishes in this Flashback Collection are:
2Nite – a periwinkle/sky blue linear holographic
BFF – a lilac (pinky/purple) linear holographic
DV8 – a ocean teal linear holographic
IDK – a light lavender linear holographic
OMG – a silver linear holographic
TTYL – a pinky peach linear holographic
There are a few differences and things to know about these two collections:
1) The original polishes have a thinner consistency. That makes the newer polishes a bit more opaque on the first coat and some of them are a little more saturated and deeper in color at two coats. The difference is minimal. In my opinion, if you have the original polishes, you really don’t need to pick up this Flashback collection.
2) The original polishes have a very thin, skinny brush. The new collection’s brush is a little thicker which makes applying easier for me. You do not want to overwork the polish, especially the new ones and especially on the first coat. You will get lifting and balding if you go over the same spot with the brush. All of these were perfectly opaque with just two coats, old and new alike.
3) The new collection has pretty, holographic caps.
UPDATE: When I just removed DV8, I got staining from the NEW DV8 only. No staining on the original one.!!
Let’s dive into some photos, I know that is what you are all here for! All the photos below have 2 coats of each color. The original colors are always on my index and pinky fingers and the flashback colors are always on my middle and ring fingers. The ring and pinky fingers have a glossy topcoat (Glisten & Glow HK Girl which has been renamed to just topcoat I believe) and the index and middle have no topcoat.
Here are a ton more photos of my swatches. Same deal as above.: 2 coats of each color, original colors on my index and pinky, flashback colors on my middle and ring. Glossy topcoat only on my ring and pinky fingers. All of these photos were outside in direct sun…

Hi Kady!! You made it all the way to the end! 🙂 Thank you!
I also got into polish too late for the originals, but luckily I wasn’t too much later and didn’t have to pay an arm and a leg for them on the secondary market! This should help the price come down, at least for awhile! I’m so glad they re-released these so those of us who missed out can finally get them!
You did an EXCELLENT job with the extensive review of this collection! I truly love and adore this collection. I feel that China Glaze did the most amazing job in re-creating these polishes, they totally nailed it! I am very happy that I got this collection, I can’t wait to try them out, as I also own the original collection. Thanks for the great review!

Hey! Thanks so much for the kind words. I agree, China Glaze did this collection right! I’m so happy! Can’t wait to see some of your NOTD’s with these!! 🙂
Hi Sherri! If you are in the US, I bought mine at Sally Beauty.com but the cheapest place I’ve heard about is Transdesign.com. Shipping is high but the per polish cost is low, so as long as you want a lot of them, that is the best I’ve seen. Thanks for checking out my post!!
Hi Nikki! I thought that would be my least favorite, but it’s right up there with the rest. There is not a bad polish in this bunch! Thanks for checking out my blog!!
Thanks for comparing these to the originals!
I’ve had TTYL on my wish list for years and now I can get it without paying crazy prices on ebay! I wish they’d brought back the shade FYI (the nude holo) as well… 😛
Thanks for the comparison and review! I bought DV8 and OMG as Christmas gifts for myself on Ebay. I paid a pretty penny but bought them from reputable sellers so I was happy. I will definitely pick up this entire set.
Hi Madeline! I had to pay a pretty penny for some of my original’s from this collection too! I’m glad you treated yourself and you’ll be able to finish the collection now!
Exciting! I got into polish a couple years after the original collection. Original OMG goes for insane prices now.

Hi Stashy! I agree, I wish they had brought back the whole collection. Maybe on the 20th Anniversary? lol!
Glad you’re able to get a lemming without paying a high price!
