Hi everyone! Today I have the upcoming China Glaze Halloween collection to show you, Happily Never After. Some of these looked familiar to me so I’ll be showing you a few comparisons as I go along too. Lots of photos today as usual. I am not affiliated with China Glaze.

First up is Queen, Please! a shimmer topper with a strong green/gold flash. If you want an ethereal look, you can wear this on it’s own, but you may prefer it layered over a darker color. I’m showing it both ways today. I kind of liked it on its own at two coats. It’s frosty and shimmery like a fresh coat of snow on a cold winter night.
Here is 2 coats plus topcoat on all my nails but the middle I have just 1 coat over Life’s Grimm, another polish from this collection. I think that makes a great combo!!

This reminded of a very recent China Glaze polish, Hay Girl Hay from the My Little Pony Collection. Is it the same? It has the same feel for sure but Hay Girl Hay has chunkier shimmer flecks and teeny tiny white glitter. Do you need both? I don’t think so unless you are a true collector.
Here are the bottles. They do appear different in the bottles…

Here they are on a piece of white paper. They look almost identical here…
Here is one coat of Queen, Please! over Life’s Grimm on my middle finger (top) and one coat of Hay Girl Hay over Life’s Grimm on my thumb (bottom).

Next up I have my favorite from the collection, Sin-derella, a taupey/gray base loaded with strong pink shimmer. This had an excellent formula. It is a nice neutral with a lot of kick! This takes on a mauve look in really bright light.
I had Femme Fatale in my mind as I was first looking at the bottle the other day. I looked through my Femme Fatale, and while this looks very close to 2084 in the bottle, it wasn’t very close on the nail ( I actually liked the China Glaze better!), so I didn’t take any photos. This does look like something an Indie polish maker would make though.
Here is 2 coats plus topcoat of China Glaze Sin-derella.

Next up is Lookin’ Gore-geous, a dark, deep plum crellyish creme. (Yes, I think I am making up words now!) This has a really great formula. It glides on easily, dries shiny, and yes, it could be a one coater if you are careful and apply on the thick side. It doesn’t quite look black inside, but it is very dark.
Here is 2 coats plus topcoat on all fingers but the ring finger I left at just 1 coat plus topcoat.

Crown For Whatever is a dark eggplant with pink shimmer. It dries fast and it dries matte. It doesn’t dry so fast that application is difficult, just try to work fast and don’t overwork the polish by going over the same area or you will get bald spots (spoken from experience). It looks like velvet once it’s dry. Inside without topcoat, the shimmer is not really noticeable except to add a bit of oomph to the look of the nail. One careful coat may be enough if you don’t overwork it. I will add that I wore this one overnight and the nails that I did not topcoat had minor chipping at the tips but the topcoated nail was still perfect.
Here is 1 coat of Crown For Whatever on all nails without topcoat except the middle nail has 2 coats plus topcoat.

Topcoated, this really reminded me of an OPI from the latest Iceland Collection, Turn on the Northern Lights. They are similar, but the shimmer shows up better and also can get a gold flash on the OPI. I also think the base of the OPI is more blue whereas this China Glaze is purple.

I also had to throw on ILNP’s The Magician over Crown For Anything. The Magician is a shimmer topper of red, green, gold shifting pigment lovingly called “Unicorn Pee” in the nail polish community. WOW! That is all I can say about this combo! I could have taken photos of this all day, so I’m going to drop just a couple here and in a few days I will do a whole post with the rest of my photos. Yes, it is that good to warrant it’s own post!
Here I have 2 coats of ILNP’s The Magician on my ring and middle fingers and 1 coat of The Magician on my index and pinky over Crown For Anything. I think 2 coats really amps up the look of this topper! LOVE this combo!!!

Next up is Life’s Grimm, a hunter green base with gold/green shimmer. This also has a great formula. One to two coats is all you’ll need.
Here is 2 coats plus topcoat of Life’s Grimm.

This one reminded me of an old favorite of mine Cast A Spell, also by China Glaze. These two have a very similar feel, but Cast A Spell has a more olive base and the shimmer is more of a brighter, yellow gold. Inside they look almost identical, in brighter lights you can see the difference in the shimmer mainly. If you missed out on Cast A Spell, this one is quite similar.

Last up is Do You, Boo! a clear based glitter topper. This has teeny tiny black and gold glitter, small black and gold hex glitter, thick black bar glitter and thin, fine holographic bar glitter. Personal preference, I am not a fan. I just really dislike bar glitter. I’m going to show you this one on a swatch wheel over a multitude of base colors. This is really thick and a ton of glitter comes out at once. It probably could use some thinner, but it was difficult to move the glitter around without it clumping together.
Here is the base color order. All are just 1 coat of Do You, Boo! over 1 coat of the base color. Left to right:
- No base color, just 1 coat on the clear swatch wheel
- Sally Hansen White from the latest Crayola Collection
- China Glaze Best Ponies Forever (gold) from the recent My Little Pony Collection
- Lilypad Lacquer Rainforest Under the Sea, a silver holographic with a strong pink shimmer
- Sally Hansen Dandelion (yellow) from the latest Crayola Collection
- Sally Hansen Carnation Pink (medium rosy pink) from the latest Crayola Collection

If you think of anything else you would like to see compared to any of these polishes, let me know in the comments and if I have it, I will compare them!
You can see the bottles from this collection up close and some swatch wheel photos HERE.
Well, there we have it!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

What a great post! Thanks for the comparisons they’re so helpful! I was wondering how the green would compare to Cast a Spell.
I have something similar to Sin-derella, it’s called Mr. Kitty by Ruby White Tips. I don’t think it’s an exact dupe though, I think for one thing the base is more pigmented in Sin-derella…

Thanks ariix! I was surprised at the dupes to things that are so recent. Especially the Hay Girl Hay and Queen Please! They’re both from China Glaze even!

Thanks for this great post. I was in Sally’s picking up CG Accent Piece and Baroque Jungle when I saw the Halloween collection. I grabbed Sin derella and Queen, please. They shouted out to me and I was happy until I read this post. Now I’ve got to go back and get Crown for whatever,
Because I have ILNP The Magician and love the combo. Great idea.
A question, I do have opi Turn on the Northern Lights, have you tried the Magician over that? Do I need both?
Great photos, love all the different lighting. It helps me make a decision.

Hi Debra! Thank you for checking out my post, I’m glad you liked it and it helped you! My latest post is all about The Magician over Crown for Whatever if you want to see a lot more photos of that combo!
I haven’t tried The Magician over Northern Lights yet, but I think it would look so close to Crown For Whatever that you probably don’t need both.

Thanks Paula. Since I have the opi and the Magician , I tried the combo and it looked very similar to yours.
My Sally’s sells out quickly so I won’t cry if I don’t snag the CG.

Yeah, I’d save your money for something more different. Those two are different, but still quite similar. I don’t think you would even miss the ChG!! 🙂

Thanks for all the swatches in different lighting. I think I might pick up Sin-derella.

Thank you so much! I’m glad they help you!!
I have *a lot* of polish and it’s sorted by brand rather than color, so a lot of times shimmers and glitters have something that will jump out to me as to being a close dupe, but I have a harder time remembering cremes that I have and thinking of dupes. I need to get my swatch stick project going again, that would make it much easier to find dupes to show you guys!! I looked through my OPI purple/berry drawer and didn’t see anything that jumps out as being a dupe. If you have any ideas, I will post a comp if I have the polish! 🙂

Almost bought Life’s Grimm, but I saw your comparison, and as someone who already owns Cast A Spell, I really don’t need both. And honestly I prefer Cast A Spell when I look at the 2 side by side.

Hi Kas! I’m glad I was able to help! I really like both of those, but you are right, if you have one you really don’t need the other.
